The European Commission's consultation on reviewing the Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation (MiCA) is closing. Cointelegraph published an opinion piece about it on Sep 30, 2026. Simon Schneider, a contributor, wrote it, and staff writer Christina Comben reviewed it.
Schneider's starting point is what MiCA already did. When the regulation came into force, Europe got one consistent set of rules for digital assets. The sector there had gone without that for years.
The review turns on a trade-off. Europe has to decide whether its crypto rules protect the market without making it too expensive to build a business there. The part of the article available here does not say which changes the Commission is considering or when it will decide.
For anyone already holding a perpetual position on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, this changes nothing directly. The article says nothing about funding rates, trading fees, liquidity or any of these four exchanges. A consultation closing is not a rule change. Until the Commission publishes an outcome, nothing is known about how holding costs might be affected.
