Crypto hacks cost $1.18 billion in the third quarter of 2026, spread across 107 recorded incidents, according to security company Hacken. Cointelegraph reported the figures on Oct 15, 2026, and named exploits at Bitget and Liquid among the incidents that brought the quarter close to $1.2 billion.
Most of the money was not lost through the audited code itself. Hacken traced about 77% of the quarter's losses to compromised suppliers, developer tools and infrastructure components that security audits did not cover.
Some things are not yet known from the report. It does not say how much was taken in the Bitget or Liquid incidents, how either attack worked, or whether customer balances were affected. The material also includes no statement from either company.
For someone already holding a perpetual position on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, the report changes nothing directly. It mentions no change to funding rates, trading fees or liquidity at any of the four exchanges. Bitget is the only one of them named, and the report gives no details of what was hit there, so any effect on Bitget positions cannot be measured from this report.
