$1.4M Drained: 1,404 Accounts vs Qubic Flaw

2026-10-21

The Layer-1 blockchain network Qubic has resumed operations following a security breach that compromised user funds. A flaw in wallet seeds enabled an attacker to extract around $1.4 million in QU tokens across 1,404 accounts. In response, network validators agreed on a recovery strategy to restore the system and assist those impacted.

Data from the network's blockchain explorer indicates that tick processing resumed at 8:00 pm on October 20, 2026. The platform officially opened its recovery claims portal following the validator vote. Users who suffered losses have until May 1, 2027, to submit their claims.

For crypto traders holding perpetual futures, the chain restart and recovery program do not directly impact perpetual contract funding rates, trading fees, or liquidity metrics on major trading platforms. While spot market activity for QU tokens may shift as claims process, derivative contract parameters remain unchanged. Consequently, existing perpetual positions face no direct mechanical adjustments from this event.
