Thieves took more than $103.4 million from 530 addresses using tampered Ledger devices that were placed into the supply chain. Ledger responded this week by suspending its reseller network across South East Asia. Cointelegraph's Asia Express column, by Andrew Fenton, was published on Oct 15, 2026.
One of the people who lost money was a scammer. According to the report, this person had stolen $4.8 million, kept it on tampered Ledgers, and then lost it. The report does not say who took the funds, and it does not say whether this loss is part of the $103.4 million total.
The same column covers two other items from the region. Bitcoin and Ether ETFs started trading in Thailand, and South Korea blocked 27 exchanges. The report does not say which exchanges were blocked.
For anyone already holding a perpetual position on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, this changes nothing directly. The story concerns hardware wallets bought through resellers, not exchange accounts, and it reports no change to funding rates, fees or liquidity on any of these four venues. The source also does not say whether any of them are among the 27 exchanges blocked in South Korea.
