The US government has moved about $1 billion in seized Bitcoin, according to a Cointelegraph report published on Oct 8, 2026. The move came after earlier transfers worth $770 million.
Blockchain analysts linked the government wallet involved to funds recovered from the Bitfinex hack. Hours before this latest transaction, the government sent a large amount of Bitcoin to a Coinbase Prime wallet.
The report does not say why the coins were moved. It also does not say whether any of the Bitcoin was sold or will be sold. Who received the $1 billion is not stated, and the report gives no exact amount for the Coinbase Prime transfer. The price table on the source page listed BTC at $80,930.74.
For anyone already holding a perpetual position, this changes nothing directly. Moving coins between wallets does not by itself change funding rates, trading fees or order-book depth on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX. The report has no data on any of those, so we have nothing to measure from it yet.
