37 licenses, 48 states: Polygon closes its Coinme takeover

2026-10-15

Polygon Labs has finished buying Coinme, Cointelegraph reported on Oct 15, 2026. With the deal closed, Polygon's stablecoin payments platform can now legally let users exchange US dollars for digital assets, and digital assets for dollars, in 48 US states.

Those 48 states come from two sources. Polygon says its US payments business now holds 37 money transmitter licenses, and it has exemptions in 11 more states. Polygon did not have to apply for these licenses itself, because they came with Coinme.

Some things are not in the report. It does not give the price Polygon paid, it does not say which states are missing from the 48, and it does not say when the new conversion service will be available to customers. No dispute, opposing party or loser is mentioned.

If you already hold a perpetual position, this changes nothing directly. The deal covers US dollar on-ramps and off-ramps for Polygon's payments platform. It says nothing about perpetual futures, and nothing about Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, so it doesn't touch funding rates, trading fees or order-book liquidity on any of them.
