Two blockchain security firms put crypto losses from hacks and exploits in September above $766 million. That makes it the worst month of 2026 so far for this kind of loss. The report was published on October 1, 2026.
Two incidents account for most of the total. One was a $388 million breach at Bitget. The other was a $320 million exploit of Liquid Network.
Of the Liquid Network losses, more than $270 million was later returned. The report does not say whether any of the Bitget losses have been recovered. It also does not say how either attack was carried out.
Bitget is one of the four exchanges this site tracks. The report says nothing about Bitget's perpetual futures funding rates, trading fees or order-book liquidity after the breach. For a trader who already holds a perpetual position there, the report shows no direct change to what that position costs to hold. Whether funding, fees or liquidity on Bitget move in the coming days is not yet known, and this site will report it only once it shows up in measured data.
