Anthropic has released Haiku 5.5, which it calls its cheapest and fastest Claude model. Developers who build Claude into their own products now pay $0.10 for every million input tokens and $0.50 for every million output tokens on prompts of up to 100,000 tokens. That is exactly what OpenAI charges for GPT-6 Luna, its competing small model, which launched on September 22.
The previous model, Haiku 4.5, cost $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens. That makes the new rates on shorter prompts 90% lower. For prompts longer than 100,000 tokens, the price falls by 50%.
Anthropic says the typical saving will be closer to 75% than 90%. It gives two reasons. About 90% of requests to the old model were under the 100,000-token threshold, and Haiku 5.5 breaks text into slightly more tokens than Haiku 4.5 did, so the same text now counts as more billable units.
In this story, a token is a piece of text roughly three-quarters of a word long. It is the unit AI companies use to bill customers, and it is not a crypto asset. Anthropic says Haiku is meant for work like customer-support conversations and summarizing long emails.
For anyone already holding a perpetual position on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, nothing changes directly. The story names no exchange, coin or trading market. It says nothing that would affect funding rates, trading fees or order-book liquidity on these venues. What it does show is the two AI companies now charging the same price for their small models.
