Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said the network's Hegotá upgrade could be its last "normal" fork. Cointelegraph reported the comments on Sep 28, 2026. Buterin said "could be." He did not say it will be.
After Hegotá, Buterin said, development would move toward four areas: recursive STARKs, automated formal verification, optimized consensus and quantum-safe cryptography. The report gives no dates for any of this.
Buterin also pointed back to PeerDAS. He said it began Ethereum's move from being only a blockchain toward something he called much more powerful.
The report does not say when Hegotá is scheduled. It also does not say what the upgrade contains, or whether other Ethereum developers agree with Buterin's view.
