The European Banking Authority (EBA) has classified Circle's USDC as a significant e-money token under MiCA, the European Union's Markets in Crypto Assets framework. The report was published on Oct 14, 2026.
USDC is the second-largest stablecoin by market capitalisation. Because of the new classification, French authorities and EU authorities will oversee it.
The report does not say which new requirements come with the label or when they start. It also does not include any response from Circle.
For someone already holding a perpetual position, nothing changes directly. The report does not mention Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, and it says nothing about funding rates, trading fees or liquidity. The news is about who supervises USDC. It does not cover how USDC trades or how exchanges treat it.
