Core Scientific, once one of the large names in Bitcoin mining, said it expects to stop mining Bitcoin by the end of 2026. The company is moving its business to artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure.
The size of the mining business explains the decision. Mining now brings in only 7.5% of Core Scientific's quarterly revenue, so most of its income already comes from other work.
The company plans to operate only as a data center provider in 2027. Cointelegraph published the report on Nov 6, 2026.
The report does not say what Core Scientific will do with its mining machines or any Bitcoin it holds. It also gives no date for the exit beyond the end of the year.
For someone already holding a perpetual position on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, this news changes nothing directly. Funding rates, trading fees and order-book liquidity on those exchanges depend on how traders position themselves, and the report includes no figures about any of them. Any effect would have to show up in the funding and liquidity numbers themselves, and none has been reported.
