Reports of implants found in Ledger hardware wallets have put new attention on the companies and people who handle these devices before buyers receive them. Cointelegraph reported on Oct 14, 2026, that this scrutiny now covers devices sold through authorized sellers as well.
Security researcher Joe Grand told Cointelegraph on Tuesday that ordinary crypto owners cannot realistically be expected to find sophisticated tampering on a hardware wallet. Grand works in hardware security and has helped people recover cryptocurrency from wallets they were locked out of.
The article does not say how many devices were affected or whether anyone lost money. It also does not say who placed the implants or at which point in the supply chain it happened. Those questions are still open.
For someone already holding a perpetual position on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, this changes nothing directly. The story is about hardware wallets used for self-custody, not about exchange derivatives, and it reports no effect on funding rates, trading fees or liquidity at any of these venues.
