Ledger, the hardware wallet maker, says it found an unauthorized hardware implant inside a device belonging to a user who lost crypto. Cointelegraph reported the confirmation on Oct 11, 2026, under a headline saying losses may exceed $86M.
Ledger had been looking into reports of crypto losses from users whose devices were bought through a reseller in Southeast Asia. The confirmed implant was in one of those users' devices. Ledger said the incident appears limited to that one reseller and the Southeast Asian market it serves.
The report does not say who placed the implant, how many devices were affected, or how the possible losses of more than $86M were counted. It also does not say whether the reseller has responded. These questions remain open.
For anyone already holding a perpetual position on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, the report points to no direct effect. It names none of these exchanges and says nothing about funding rates, trading fees or liquidity. Based on what has been reported so far, this is a story about hardware wallet security, not about the cost of holding a perpetual.
