MSCI vs Strategy: New Rules Could Kick It Out of Global Indexes

2026-10-16

Index provider MSCI has adopted new exclusion rules for its global indexes. Under these rules, Strategy, Metaplanet and Upexi could be removed. All three had already been named for deletion under the same methodology.

Those three are not the only companies affected. Several other crypto treasury companies could also be excluded, Cointelegraph reported on Oct. 16, 2026. The text we have does not name those other companies.

Nothing is final yet. MSCI is due to publish its final list in November, and the text we have does not give an exact date. Until then, it is not known which companies will actually be removed.

If you already hold a perpetual position, this changes nothing directly. The rules decide which company shares belong in MSCI's equity indexes. They do not touch contract terms, funding rates, fees or order books on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, and the story says nothing about how any perpetual market reacted.
