Reported 17% staff cut at $4.2B Anchorage, despite Tether's $100M

2026-10-02

Anchorage Digital has reportedly let go of 17% of its staff. Cointelegraph reported the cuts on Oct 2, 2026. Anchorage is a digital asset bank with a federal charter in the United States, and it was valued at $4.2 billion earlier this year.

The report connects the layoffs to the long downturn in the crypto market. Anchorage is still growing its business with institutions in the same period. That work includes issuing stablecoins, and Tether has invested $100 million in the company.

Much is still unknown. The report as we have it does not give a headcount, does not name the teams affected and does not say whether more cuts are planned. It also does not include a statement from Anchorage confirming the numbers.

For anyone already holding a perpetual position, this changes nothing directly. Anchorage is a bank, not one of the exchanges we track. The report says nothing about funding rates, trading fees or liquidity on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, so it gives no reason to expect any change in what a position costs to hold.
