Russia plans to ban crypto trades made directly between two individuals, according to a Cointelegraph report published on October 15, 2026. The ban is set to start on July 1, 2027. From that date, people who want to trade crypto with each other will have to go through an authorized intermediary.
This is not the first limit of its kind. Russia already has separate rules that stop people from moving funds out of digital accounts into self-custody wallets. The new rule would add a second limit, this time on peer-to-peer deals between individuals.
The report does not say who counts as an authorized intermediary, how the ban will be enforced, or what penalties will apply. It also does not describe any reaction from traders, platforms or other officials. Those points are not yet known.
For someone already holding a perpetual position on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, nothing changes directly. The report does not mention perpetual futures, derivatives, funding rates, trading fees or any of these four exchanges. The ban targets direct trades between individuals in Russia, and it does not start until July 2027.
