SEC Flags Tokenization as 2027 Risk, Crypto Gets No Own Category

2026-10-24

The US Securities and Exchange Commission has named tokenization as one of its examination priorities for fiscal 2027. Cointelegraph reported this on Oct 23, 2026. The SEC lists tokenized securities as an emerging market risk.

Tokenization sits in a group of emerging trends that the agency plans to examine. The other two trends in that group are quantum computing and extended trading hours.

Cryptocurrencies are not a separate examination category in the new priorities. The report does not say which firms will be examined, when the examinations will start or what examiners will look at.

For someone already holding a perpetual futures position on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, nothing changes directly. The report does not mention perpetual futures, funding rates, trading fees or exchange liquidity. Nothing in it changes what a position costs to hold today.
