UK Picks 6 Banks to Test Government Debt Onchain

2026-10-06

The UK government has chosen six major banks to lead the sale of its first government bond issued in digital form from the start. Cointelegraph reported the appointment on Oct 6, 2026.

The project is a pilot called DIGIT. It will test whether distributed ledger technology and onchain settlement can work for UK government debt. The bond is expected to be issued by the first quarter of 2027.

The report summarized here does not name the six banks. It also gives no bond size, pricing, or blockchain network. Those details are not yet known from this source.

For anyone already holding a perpetual futures position on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, this changes nothing directly. The announcement does not touch funding rates, trading fees, or liquidity on those exchanges, and none of them is part of the pilot.
