The UK Financial Conduct Authority has opened consultations on guidance for decentralized finance (DeFi) and on crypto laws. Cointelegraph reported the news on Oct 21, 2026, in an article by staff writer Turner Wright.
The consultations follow the agency's move a few weeks earlier to start taking applications from companies under its new crypto regulatory regime. That puts the FCA in two stages at the same time: firms are applying to the new regime while the agency asks for feedback on further rules.
The report does not say what the proposed guidance contains, when the consultations close, or whether they cover crypto derivatives such as perpetual futures. It also does not name any exchange, including Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX.
For someone already holding a perpetual position on these four exchanges, nothing changes directly today. The report links no change in funding rates, trading fees or liquidity to these consultations, and opening a consultation does not make any rule final. What matters for holding costs will only become clear if final rules are published and apply to the platforms where the position is open.
