Sui, a layer-1 blockchain, says its programmable offchain tunnels handled 40.6 million transactions per second in a live test. The test was set up to copy the fast, repeated transactions that AI agents might send to each other. Cointelegraph published the report on Oct 7, 2026. Nate Kostar wrote it and Robert Lakin edited it.
The 40.6 million figure is for the tunnels, which process transactions offchain. It is not a measure of the Sui base chain. The number comes from Sui itself, and the report does not mention any independent check of the result.
Several things are not yet known from the report: how long the test ran, how many agents took part, what hardware was used, and how tunnel activity is settled back on the main chain. The report also gives no date for when this setup would handle real user activity.
If you hold a SUI perpetual or any other perpetual on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, this changes nothing directly. A throughput test does not change funding rates, trading fees or order book depth on any of those exchanges. The report contains no data on SUI's price, open interest or funding, so there is nothing here to measure against a position.
