The team behind Core Lightning has told node operators to upgrade right away. The warning followed reports that attackers are going after nodes that have not been patched. Core Lightning is open-source software for running a node on Bitcoin's Lightning Network.
The warning covers version 26.06.7 and every earlier version. Operators running any of those releases were asked to move to a newer one without delay. The report was published on October 2, 2026.
Several things are still unknown. The report does not say who the attackers are, how many nodes have been targeted, what weakness they are using, or whether anyone has lost funds. Until the team or operators say more, the size of the problem is not known.
For someone already holding a perpetual futures position on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, this changes nothing directly. The report does not mention any exchange, funding rates, trading fees or market liquidity. It concerns people who run their own Lightning nodes with Core Lightning software, not the cost of holding a perp.
