Ethereum's zkAPI is live: pay for AI APIs without exposing who pays

2026-10-02

The Ethereum Foundation said on Thursday that zkAPI is now running on Ethereum mainnet. The system was built with the Open Anonymity Project. It lets people pay for AI services and other APIs without revealing their billing identities.

zkAPI began as a proposal for paying for API access with zero-knowledge proofs. With the mainnet launch, that proposal is now a working system. Access is prepaid and kept private.

The report does not say how many people use zkAPI, which services accept it, or what it costs to use. It also does not say how the system will be adopted from here.

For a trader already holding an ETH perpetual on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, this changes nothing directly. The launch is about paying privately for API services. It does not touch funding rates, trading fees or order-book liquidity on any of those exchanges, and the report does not link it to derivatives trading at all.
