Ethereum Name Service (ENS) has asked its decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) to approve switching on ENSv2, a new version of its naming protocol, on the Ethereum mainnet. ENS founder Nick Johnson filed the request as an executable draft proposal. Cointelegraph reported it on Oct 13, 2026.
If the change goes ahead, nobody could register a new .eth name for several hours while the protocol switches over. The report does not give the exact length of the pause.
People who already own .eth names would not have to move them to the new version. They could still renew their names without migrating.
Some things are still unknown. The report does not say when the DAO will decide, how many votes the proposal needs or when the switchover would happen.
For anyone already holding a perpetual position on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, nothing changes directly. The report does not mention a token price, a trading market or any of these exchanges, and it says nothing that affects funding rates, trading fees or liquidity on their perpetual contracts.
