Standard Chartered has started holding Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin for institutional clients. The service covers RLUSD issued on the XRP Ledger. Cointelegraph reported the launch on Oct 12, 2026.
The bank also intends to let institutions post RLUSD as collateral when they trade. The report's headline links that plan to LMAX and calls it something the bank is "eyeing", so it is not presented as a signed agreement.
Several details are missing from the report. It gives no terms for any LMAX arrangement, no start date for the collateral feature, and no names of the institutions involved. It does not say how much RLUSD the bank holds now.
For anyone already holding a perpetual position on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, nothing changes directly. The report names none of these exchanges and says nothing about funding rates, trading fees or order-book liquidity on them. As described, the collateral plan concerns institutions working with Standard Chartered and, possibly, LMAX, not retail perpetual margin accounts.
