The Five Mistakes Almost Everyone Makes in Week One — MEXC

None of these are about being wrong on direction. All of them are avoidable with a setting or a habit.

The Five Mistakes Almost Everyone Makes in Week One

1. Sizing from leverage instead of from risk

"I'll use 20x" is not a plan; it is a number with no relationship to where the idea is wrong. Size from the loss you accept and the invalidation level, and let leverage be whatever that implies. This one error causes more account losses than every other item combined.

2. Treating the liquidation price as the stop

If the stop is wider than the liquidation distance, there is no stop — there is a liquidation with extra steps, at a worse price and with a fee attached. Check the distance before entry, every time.

3. Ignoring funding on a multi-day hold

A directionally correct swing trade held through a week of elevated funding can finish flat or negative. Funding is a cost of carry and it accrues whether or not the position is working.

4. Trading entirely as taker

Impatience is a fee schedule. Crossing the spread on every entry and exit roughly triples the round-trip cost versus posting limits. Over a month of active trading this is not a rounding error — at three trades a day on 10x, taker-only fees can consume a majority of your starting margin before any market move.

5. Never claiming the fee tier already earned

Fee schedules step down with 30-day volume, and the step is not always automatic or obvious. A meaningful number of active traders are paying entry-tier rates on volume that qualifies for two tiers better, simply because they never checked. This is free money left on the table, monthly.

What the screen actually shows (checked 2026-09-03):

- The page is called Fee Overview, with tabs for Spot, Futures and Deposit/Withdrawal. It is reached from Profile > Trading Fees. - MEXC does not publish a volume-tier ladder here. There is no 'you are VIP 2, trade X more for VIP 3'. Tiering exists separately as VVIP, which is scored (Standard / Premier / Elite) rather than earned by volume alone. Do not describe MEXC as having the usual VIP volume ladder. - What the page prints instead is a range. Spot: Maker 0.0000%, Taker 0.0000%~0.0500%. Futures: Maker 0.000%~0.010%, Taker 0.000%~0.040%. - That range settles the earlier discrepancy. The front page advertises futures taker 0.02%; an order ticket showed 0.04%. Both are inside 0.000%~0.040%. The headline is a point chosen from the range; the ticket is the rate for the contract in front of you. - MEXC states the reason itself, on this page: 'Maker fee rates may vary with platform events or user region. Please refer to the actual trade history.' The exchange is telling you the advertised number is not your number, and to check your fills. - The MX discount shown here is 20% off, as a toggle reading 'Deduct using MX -- 20% Off', and it is off by default ('No MX Discount Applied'). Marketing surfaces have shown a larger figure; 20% is what the account's own fee page offers. - The futures discount has a step the spot one does not: MX must be transferred into the Futures wallet before it will be used. Enabling the toggle alone does nothing if the MX is sitting in Spot. - The discount stops the moment the MX balance runs out, and some pairs are excluded from it entirely. - The per-pair table below carries filters for All, 0 Fees, Special Rate and 20% MX Discount. The 0-fee pairs are a real thing, not a banner.

The meta-mistake

Trying to fix all five by trading more carefully. Four of the five are settings and habits you configure once. Do that, and the remaining problem is the genuinely hard one — being right about direction — instead of five easy problems stacked on top of it.
