Ethereum developers have set Oct. 6 as the date for the Glamsterdam upgrade to go live on the Sepolia testnet. Glamsterdam is the network's next major upgrade. No date has been set for Ethereum mainnet.
The Ethereum Foundation said on Monday that Sepolia node operators need to update both their execution-layer client and their consensus-layer client before the upgrade activates. Operators who do not update both will not be ready for the change on the testnet.
The upgrade adds three main features: proposer-builder separation, block-level access lists and a new way of pricing gas. The story does not say how these features will be tested on Sepolia or what would need to happen before a mainnet date is chosen.
For anyone already holding an ETH perpetual position on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC or OKX, this news changes nothing directly. The upgrade only reaches a testnet on Oct. 6, and with no mainnet date, nothing in the story affects funding rates, trading fees or order-book liquidity on those exchanges today.
