Why Is Tether Backing Food Delivery Payments via Peso?

2026-10-22

On October 21, 2026, Tether led a pre-seed funding round for Bolivian fintech firm Peso. The capital investment is structured to assist the startup's expansion across four markets in Latin America.

Peso connects USDT stablecoin payments into food delivery apps, merchant platforms, and local banking networks. The software links digital asset payments directly to everyday regional services and banking systems.

At the time of the update, market figures showed Bitcoin at $84,265.66 and Ethereum at $2,479.74. Other listed assets included BNB at $748.59, Solana at $107.22, and XRP at $1.36.

For traders holding perpetual futures contracts on Bitget, Bybit, MEXC, or OKX, this investment changes nothing directly regarding funding rates, borrowing costs, or contract liquidity. While local stablecoin payment channels grow in Latin America, daily holding fees for existing derivatives positions remain unaffected.
